Classroom Environment
Though intangible, the environment in a classroom holds incredible stock in student academic and social success. All students deserve to feel safe and welcome in their places of learning.
I believe that it is part of a teacher's job description to set the behavior expectation high in his or her classroom, but students should feel comfortable approaching their teacher with inquiry, as well as feel accepted by their classmates. Teachers, therefore, must spend considerable effort establishing a close-knit classroom community, in which students feel as though their ideas and work can be shared in a positive, constructive way. They must also be ever-vigilant to continue to build community during all parts of the year.
I also believe that teachers must have a very clear anti-bullying procedure, as well as explicitly teach peer mediation and social skills, to put students accountable, and in the driver's seat of their social interactions. While I have not worked with all of these procedures in the past year, I fully plan on implementing anti-bullying and peer mediation in my future classroom.
Structured classroom procedures are also an integral part of classroom environment. Teachers must exercise patience, and remember to practice these procedures with students. I had an opportunity to both implement my mentor teacher's established procedures, as well as create and carry-out my own.

Classroom Management Philosophy
The classroom management procedures that I helped implement, along with reflection, reading, and research, helped me compose my own classroom management philosophy.
