In the Middle: Building a Rigorous Language Program While Captivating an Audience of Generation Z
How can teachers promote authentic communication to students in the challenging middle or early high school years? Strapped for resources? Kids struggling to form whole sentences in their native language? This session highlights some tricks used by middle school language teachers to hook students’ curiosity, build confidence and get them talking. We will provide teachers with new and refurbished ideas for the day-to-day classroom and discuss activities that increase student buy-in and build beginning programs.

National Council of Teachers of English Conference
This year, I will be attending the national NCTE conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, assisting a presentation on relationships in teacher education.
Leader in Me Training
I participated in a three-day training with Leader in Me staff to implement the 7 Habits in my own life in order to effectively teach it to my students. Additionally, I was part of the journey to lighthouse status, with regular professional development focused upon the Leader in Me program. I was also the facilitator of the student lighthouse action team, as well as the curriculum action team.
Wayne State Poverty Conference
Toward the end of my student teaching year, I assisted in presenting a workshop on the impacts of stress on students in poverty-stricken areas. We discussed the merits and logistics of implementing a self-awareness and yoga program in the classroom to help students better succeed in school.
